Rubbish removal Brighton

Local rubbish removal in Brighton & Hove

Send a few photos, get a clear price, and we load it all and take it away. No skip, no tip runs, no carrying it yourself.

Rubbish removal in Brighton & Hove works the same way wherever you are in BN1, BN2 and BN3: you send a few photos, we send back a price, and our team turns up to load everything and take it away. Brighton is around eleven miles east of our Worthing base, roughly thirty minutes along the A27 or the A259 through Shoreham and Hove. That means we can usually offer a collection within days, not weeks.

We collect from homes, flats, gardens and businesses across Hove, Kemptown, Hanover, Preston Park and Seven Dials. Whether it is a few bags from a clear-out, a garage full of junk or a mixed load of furniture and garden waste, it all goes in one visit, loaded by us and taken to licensed facilities.

A Star are absolutely brilliant. Turn up when they say they will, are professional, friendly and helpful. And stick to their very reasonable quotes and would certainly use them in the future. Thank you A Star.

Chris J Simmo, Google review

Most rubbish collections start with a WhatsApp message. You send a few photos of what needs to go and where it is, we reply with a price, and we agree a day. Many of our customers are collected within a day or two of first getting in touch, and our Google reviews regularly mention quick replies and next-day collections, though it always depends on the diary that week.

Local knowledge

Rubbish removal in Brighton & Hove: what we know locally

Every town has its own quirks. These are the things that shape rubbish removal jobs in Brighton & Hove.

Loft space crammed with boxes, cases and old furniture before a loft clearance

Homes in Brighton

Much of central Brighton and Hove is made up of Regency and Victorian townhouses that have been converted into flats, often with four or five floors and no lift. Hanover and Elm Grove are packed with steep terraced streets, while Patcham, Withdean, Hangleton and Westdene are mainly inter-war and post-war semis and bungalows. Understanding the building is the key to pricing a Brighton clearance accurately.

Parking and access

Most of central Brighton and Hove is covered by controlled parking zones, and many streets are narrow, steep or one-way. We plan the loading point before we arrive, and in some cases we will ask you to arrange a visitor permit or parking suspension. It is one of the reasons we always want to see the route to the road when quoting.

Gloved hands sorting timber offcuts and cardboard for recycling

Council services and us

Brighton & Hove City Council offers a chargeable bulky waste collection and runs household waste recycling sites at Hollingdean and Wilson Avenue. These are fine for the occasional item. For multiple items, mixed rubbish or anything that needs carrying down several flights of stairs, a single visit from us is usually quicker and better value.

After: the same bedroom emptied down to the carpet

Flats and apartments

Brighton is a city of flats: top-floor conversions with narrow staircases, basement flats down steep outside steps, and modern blocks with lifts and concierge rules. We bring enough people to carry heavy items safely, dismantle furniture where needed, and protect common parts.

What we take in Brighton & Hove

Every rubbish removal job in Brighton & Hove is different, but these are the items we collect most often:

  • Black bags and loose household rubbishThe results of a clear-out, spring clean or house move.
  • Bulky itemsChairs, tables, wardrobes, bed frames, mirrors and rugs.
  • Sofas and armchairsHandled separately because of the rules on upholstered seating.
  • MattressesSingle, double and king-size, including divans and toppers.
  • Electricals and white goodsTVs, microwaves, washing machines, fridges and freezers.
  • Garden wasteCuttings, branches, turf, pots and old garden furniture.
  • Cardboard and packagingBoxes from a move or a delivery, flattened or not.
  • Light DIY wasteOld carpets, doors, timber, tiles and bagged rubble.
  • Garage and shed junkBikes, tools, toys, paint tins (dried out) and storage boxes.
  • Toys, books and bric-a-bracWe set reusable items aside where possible.
  • Metal and scrapOld radiators, shelving, pipes and garden furniture.
  • Mixed loadsMost collections are a mixture, and that is fine.

  • Gas bottles and fire extinguishersReturn to the supplier or use a specialist route.
  • Liquid paint, oils and chemicalsNot accepted in general loads; dried-out tins are fine.

The detail

What a rubbish collection actually involves

On the day, we arrive in a tipper van with enough people for the job. We check with you exactly what is going and what is staying, then we carry everything out to the van. That includes items in lofts, garages, sheds, back gardens and upstairs rooms, not just what is waiting at the kerb. If something needs taking apart to get it out, such as a wardrobe or a bed frame, we dismantle it.

Once everything is loaded we sweep up, so the driveway, passage or room is left tidy. If you cannot be there, we can collect from an agreed spot and send you photos of the finished job. Payment is straightforward, and you will have a clear record of what was taken.

Why people choose a man-and-van collection over a skip

A skip seems simple until you add up what it involves. You need space for it, and if it goes on the road you need a permit from the highway authority. You then have to fill it yourself, stay within the rules on what can go in it, and wait for it to be collected. Meanwhile, neighbours sometimes add their own rubbish.

With a collection, you pay for the waste we take, and the loading is included. There is nothing sitting on your drive, no permit to arrange, and the job is usually done in an hour or two. For most household clear-outs that is quicker and cheaper, and several of our reviewers have said exactly that.

How rubbish removal in Brighton & Hove works

Brighton is around eleven miles east of our Worthing base, roughly thirty minutes along the A27 or the A259 through Shoreham and Hove. Here is how a typical rubbish removal job in Brighton & Hove works:

1

Send us photos

WhatsApp a few pictures of the waste and the route to the road, or call 01903 962 492. Tell us your postcode and when suits you.

2

Get a clear price

We reply with a fixed quote based on what we can see. No hidden extras, no pressure, and no obligation to book.

3

We load and sweep

Our team arrives on the agreed day, carries everything out, loads the van and sweeps up behind us.

4

Responsible disposal

Waste goes to licensed facilities to be sorted and recycled where possible. Businesses get a waste transfer note.

What affects the price of rubbish removal in Brighton & Hove

We quote every job individually from photos, so you know the cost before we arrive. The main factors are:

Volume

How much space the waste takes up in the van is the biggest factor.

Weight

Heavy materials such as rubble, soil and tiles cost more to dispose of.

Item types

Fridges, sofas, mattresses and tyres carry extra disposal costs.

Access and labour

Stairs, long carries and dismantling take more time.

Time on site

A quick load from the drive is quicker than clearing several rooms.

How to prepare

  • Group the rubbish together if you can, but do not worry if it is spread around the house or garden. We will collect it from where it is.
  • Tell us about stairs, lifts, narrow passages or a long walk from the road when you send photos.
  • Mark anything that is staying, and keep valuables, paperwork and keys out of the way.
  • Let us know if any sofas or armchairs are included, as they need separate disposal.
  • Check parking: if your street has permit bays, tell us so we can plan where to load.
  • If you will not be home, tell us where the rubbish is and how we can access it.

Responsible disposal

Where your Brighton waste goes

Every load is taken to licensed waste transfer and recycling facilities. We separate metal, cardboard, timber, garden waste and electricals as we load so that they can be recycled, and set aside furniture and household items that are still usable where we can. Upholstered seating is kept apart for the specialist disposal it now requires.

Whoever takes your waste, check they are a registered waste carrier. Householders have a legal duty of care, and if waste you paid someone to remove is fly-tipped it can be traced back to you. We are licensed and insured, take every load to authorised facilities, and are always happy to show our credentials.

Can't see your question? Call 01903 962 492 or message us on WhatsApp.

Before: red and black rubbish bags on a driveway with A Star vans parked behind
How quickly can you remove rubbish in Brighton & Hove?

We cover Brighton & Hove every week. Brighton is around eleven miles east of our Worthing base, roughly thirty minutes along the A27 or the A259 through Shoreham and Hove. Send photos on WhatsApp and we will offer the earliest slot we have, which is often within a day or two.

Do you collect rubbish from inside Brighton & Hove homes, not just the kerb?

Yes. We collect from any room, loft, garage, shed or garden in Brighton & Hove, and carry everything out to the van ourselves.

Is your service better value than the Brighton & Hove City Council bulky waste collection?

For one or two items the council service can be cheaper. For mixed loads, several items or anything that needs carrying out of the property, a single visit from us is usually quicker and better value.

Do you cover the whole of Brighton and Hove?

Yes. We cover Brighton and Hove from Hangleton and Portslade in the west to Kemptown, Whitehawk, Woodingdean and Rottingdean in the east, and north to Patcham and Coldean.

How do you deal with parking in central Brighton?

We plan the loading point before the day. In controlled parking zones we may ask you to arrange a visitor permit or bay suspension, and we keep the van's time on the street as short as possible.

How much does rubbish removal cost?

It depends on how much there is, how heavy it is, and how easy it is to reach. The quickest way to get an exact price is to send us a few photos on WhatsApp. We give a clear quote before we start, with no hidden extras on the day.

How quickly can you collect?

We often collect within a day or two, and sometimes the same day, but it depends on the diary. Tell us how urgent it is and we will give you our earliest slot.

Do I need to bag everything up?

No. Bagging loose items helps, but we will load loose rubbish, bulky items and mixed waste as it is.

Send us a photo. We'll send you a price.

WhatsApp a few pictures of what needs to go and the route to the road. We reply with a clear, fixed quote, usually the same working day, and collections are often possible within a day or two.
