Bereavement clearance
Bereavement clearance in Worthing and across Sussex
When a loved one has died, we help families and executors clear the home sensitively, respectfully and without pressure.
Clearing the home of someone who has died is one of the most difficult things a family has to do. There are memories in every drawer, decisions to make about every item, and often a sale or tenancy deadline adding pressure. We aim to take the physical work off your hands while treating the home and its contents with respect.
We work at your pace. Some families want to go through everything first; others prefer us to set aside documents, photographs and personal items as we go. Either way, nothing personal is thrown away without your agreement.
We have used this company a number of times. Very professional, I would highly recommend them. They are happy to go that extra mile with no hesitation.

Working with executors and solicitors
If you are the executor or administrator, you may need to clear the property before it can be sold or handed back. We can work with the solicitor or estate agent, arrange access with a key holder, and provide a record of the clearance.
If there are items of value, please have them removed or valued before we arrive. We clear, rather than buy, contents.

Advice
Taking the time you need
There is no right speed for a bereavement clearance. Some families want to finish quickly so that they can move forward; others need to come back to the house several times before they are ready. We can clear the whole property in one visit, or work room by room over a few weeks, and we will never rush you.
If family members live far away, we can coordinate with whoever holds the keys, keep you updated by phone or WhatsApp, and send photos of each room when it is done.

Good to know
What we look out for
As we clear, we watch for paperwork, bank statements, wills, photographs, letters, jewellery and cash, which are often tucked into books, pockets and drawers. These are set aside for the family.
Reusable furniture and household items are set aside where possible, so that some of your loved one's belongings can be useful to someone else.
Downsizing and moving into care
When someone moves from a family home into a smaller property or a care home, only a fraction of their belongings go with them. We can clear the rest before or after the move, working around removal firms and family members. We are patient and friendly, and we will never rush an older customer into decisions they are not ready to make.
Good-quality furniture and household items can often be reused. Where possible we set these aside for reuse rather than sending them for disposal.

We load and sweep

Responsible disposal
Waste goes to licensed facilities to be sorted and recycled where possible. Businesses get a waste transfer note.
What affects the price
We quote every job individually, usually from photos. The main factors are:
The number of rooms and how full they are.
Furniture, electricals and sofas have different disposal costs.
Flats with stairs and long carries take longer than a bungalow with a drive.
Lofts, garages, sheds and gardens add to the volume.
We will always try to meet your deadline.
How to prepare
- Decide what is staying, going to family or being donated, and label it clearly.
- Remove valuables, jewellery, cash, keys and important documents.
- Check drawers, pockets, books and boxes for personal papers and photographs.
- Let us know if the property has been sold or let and when it needs to be empty.
- Tell us about access: stairs, lifts, parking and any building rules.
- Arrange keys with a neighbour, agent or solicitor if you cannot be there.
Responsible disposal
Where your waste goes
House clearance waste is sorted into reusable items, recyclable materials and general waste. Reusable furniture and household items are set aside where possible, recyclable materials go to the appropriate facilities, and the rest is taken to licensed waste transfer stations. Upholstered seating is kept separate for specialist disposal.
Whoever takes your waste, check they are a registered waste carrier. Householders have a legal duty of care, and if waste you paid someone to remove is fly-tipped it can be traced back to you. We are licensed and insured, take every load to authorised facilities, and are always happy to show our credentials.

Questions
Bereavement clearance FAQs
Can't see your question? Call 01903 962 492 or message us on WhatsApp.
Can you work with the solicitor or executor?
Yes.
Will you set aside personal papers?
Yes, always.
Can you clear before probate is granted?
That is a decision for the executors. We can clear whenever you are ready.
Do I need to be there?
No. We can work with a key holder and send photos.
Do you buy house contents?
No. We clear and dispose responsibly; please value anything precious first.
How long does a house clearance take?
Most houses can be cleared in a day, depending on size and contents. Larger or very full properties may take two days. We will give you a realistic timescale when we quote.
Do I need to be there during the clearance?
No. Many clearances are done while the family is elsewhere. We can arrange access through a key holder, agent or solicitor and send you photos when we have finished.
Can you clear a property for probate?
Yes. We regularly work with families and executors, setting aside paperwork and personal items and clearing the property in time for sale or handover.
What happens to furniture that is still in good condition?
Where possible, reusable furniture and household items are set aside for reuse rather than disposed of.
Can you clear just part of a house?
Yes. We can clear a single room, the loft, the garage or everything except the items you are keeping.
