Loft clearance
Loft clearance in Worthing and across Sussex
We empty lofts and attics safely, bring everything down through the hatch and take it away.
Lofts are hard to clear yourself. The hatch is small, the ladder is steep, the space is often unboarded, and years of boxes, suitcases, Christmas decorations and old furniture have to be passed down one item at a time. We do it safely and quickly.
Loft clearances are often needed before a loft conversion, a house sale, a new boiler or insulation work, or simply to find out what is up there. We work carefully to avoid damaging ceilings, and we can set aside anything you want to look through.
Fantastic service I highly recommend them, took a shed down yesterday rang them last night they were here first thing this morning to take it away along with other garden waste. Highly competitive rates but they don't cut corners. They swept and tidied up after themselves as well, I'll definitely use A Star in all my future jobs. Thank you.

Working safely in the loft
We work only on boarded areas or joists, never on plasterboard between them, and use proper lighting. One person passes items to the hatch while others bring them down and carry them out.
If the loft is unboarded or very tight, tell us, and we will plan accordingly. We do not remove loft insulation unless agreed in advance.

Advice
What we typically find in lofts
Lofts tend to hold the things people could not quite throw away: children's toys and school work, old suitcases, Christmas decorations, boxes from previous moves, spare doors and offcuts of carpet. Older lofts can also contain water tanks, lagging and redundant pipework left behind after heating upgrades.
We bring everything down in an order that keeps the landing clear, and we set aside anything that looks personal or valuable, such as photographs, letters and documents, so you can decide what happens to it.

Good to know
Before a loft conversion
Builders need an empty loft before a conversion can start. We clear it in time for the start date, so the builders can begin on schedule.
We can also collect the builders waste from the conversion itself. See our builders waste service.
Downsizing and moving into care
When someone moves from a family home into a smaller property or a care home, only a fraction of their belongings go with them. We can clear the rest before or after the move, working around removal firms and family members. We are patient and friendly, and we will never rush an older customer into decisions they are not ready to make.
Good-quality furniture and household items can often be reused. Where possible we set these aside for reuse rather than sending them for disposal.

Send us photos
WhatsApp a few pictures of the waste and the route to the road, or call 01903 962 492. Tell us your postcode and when suits you.
Get a clear price
We reply with a fixed quote based on what we can see. No hidden extras, no pressure, and no obligation to book.
We load and sweep
Our team arrives on the agreed day, carries everything out, loads the van and sweeps up behind us.
Responsible disposal
Waste goes to licensed facilities to be sorted and recycled where possible. Businesses get a waste transfer note.
What affects the price
We quote every job individually, usually from photos. The main factors are:
The number of rooms and how full they are.
Furniture, electricals and sofas have different disposal costs.
Flats with stairs and long carries take longer than a bungalow with a drive.
Lofts, garages, sheds and gardens add to the volume.
We will always try to meet your deadline.
How to prepare
- Decide what is staying, going to family or being donated, and label it clearly.
- Remove valuables, jewellery, cash, keys and important documents.
- Check drawers, pockets, books and boxes for personal papers and photographs.
- Let us know if the property has been sold or let and when it needs to be empty.
- Tell us about access: stairs, lifts, parking and any building rules.
- Arrange keys with a neighbour, agent or solicitor if you cannot be there.
Responsible disposal
Where your waste goes
House clearance waste is sorted into reusable items, recyclable materials and general waste. Reusable furniture and household items are set aside where possible, recyclable materials go to the appropriate facilities, and the rest is taken to licensed waste transfer stations. Upholstered seating is kept separate for specialist disposal.
Whoever takes your waste, check they are a registered waste carrier. Householders have a legal duty of care, and if waste you paid someone to remove is fly-tipped it can be traced back to you. We are licensed and insured, take every load to authorised facilities, and are always happy to show our credentials.

Can't speak highly enough of this service. They were speedy, efficient and polite. Above all they were very reasonably priced. Thankyou so much guys I will be happy to recommend you to friends and neighbours.
Bit of a mix up with timings but once arrived the boys were quick, efficient and very thorough in their work. There was an awful lot of stuff in our garage that was not being used and we needed it clearing for selling our house.
Such an amazing company! Communication was brilliant, the clean up was outstanding. Took everything little bit, was very pleased with the results. Also managed to fit me in very quickly which was a bonus! Will be using them again for sure! Thanks again guys.
A Star Waste Management provided a prompt and straightforward service from start to finish. Communication was clear, collection was arranged at a convenient time, and the waste was removed efficiently with no mess left behind. Polite, professional, and easy to deal with.
Jordan organized his crew to come and clear a mountain of rubbish from my back garden. A well overdue clearance all soggy and disintegrated and included a dead rat within..yuk. The lads did an amazing job. They were polite and courteous and worked flat out in the pouring rain. I can highly recommend them and will be using them again. I probably won't leave it so long next time though!
