Plasterboard is one of the most common renovation wastes, and one of the most awkward. Because gypsum can produce hydrogen sulphide gas when it breaks down with biodegradable waste, it must not be landfilled with general waste. Many skip companies charge extra for it or refuse mixed loads.
We collect plasterboard offcuts, old boards from ceilings and walls, and plaster rubble, kept separate from other waste, and send it for gypsum recycling, where it is made into new plasterboard.

How to keep plasterboard separate
The simplest approach is a dedicated pile or bags for plasterboard only, kept dry if possible. Wet or contaminated plasterboard can still be collected but is harder to recycle.
If it has already been mixed with other waste, we can separate it on site, although this takes longer.

Plasterboard in renovation projects
Plasterboard waste comes from almost every renovation: ceilings brought down during rewiring, stud walls removed to open up a room, and offcuts left over when new boards are fitted. Old lath and plaster ceilings produce a different kind of waste, which is heavier and dustier and should be bagged.
Keep new offcuts clean and dry and they are much easier to recycle. Mixed, wet or painted board can still be taken but may cost a little more to process.

Heavy waste and weight limits

What affects the price
We quote every job individually, usually from photos. The main factors are:
Rubble, concrete and soil are priced by weight as much as by volume.
Lighter mixed waste is priced by how much van space it uses.
Separated gypsum waste has its own disposal cost.
Waste that is bagged and stacked is quicker to load.
Regular collections for trades can be priced as a package.
How to prepare
- Stack waste in one area with clear access to the road or drive.
- Keep plasterboard separate from other waste if you can.
- Bag small rubble and tile waste to make loading quicker.
- Tell us roughly how much is rubble, soil or concrete, as it affects the price.

Responsible disposal
Where your waste goes
Builders waste is separated into inert waste (rubble, brick, concrete and soil), gypsum (plasterboard), timber, metal and general waste, then taken to the appropriate licensed facilities. Inert waste is often crushed and reused as aggregate, timber is recycled where possible, and metal is recycled.
Whoever takes your waste, check they are a registered waste carrier. Householders have a legal duty of care, and if waste you paid someone to remove is fly-tipped it can be traced back to you. We are licensed and insured, take every load to authorised facilities, and are always happy to show our credentials.
Quoted a good price for some hardcore removal after breaking up a pathway. A Star came and removed the waste the next day. The lads were polite and got the job done quickly. Highly recommend.
