Fridge & freezer collection
Fridge & freezer collection across Worthing and Sussex
We carry out old fridges, freezers and white goods from wherever they are and send them for proper recycling, where refrigerant gases are safely removed.
Fridges and freezers cannot simply be thrown away. They contain refrigerant gases and insulation foam that can damage the ozone layer and contribute to climate change if released, so they have to go to facilities that are set up to remove and capture them safely. That is why many general waste services will not take them, and why a fridge left out on the street is a fly-tipping problem.
We collect fridges, freezers, fridge-freezers and American-style units from homes, flats, garages and businesses, carrying them out from wherever they are, including upstairs flats and awkward kitchens. We also take other white goods, such as washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers and cookers, in the same visit.
A Star are absolutely brilliant. Turn up when they say they will, are professional, friendly and helpful. And stick to their very reasonable quotes and would certainly use them in the future. Thank you A Star.

Everything is taken through proper WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) recycling channels. The metal, plastic and components are recovered, and the gases and foam are dealt with safely.

The detail
Why fridges need special handling
Older fridges and freezers can contain CFCs or HCFCs, and newer ones contain HFCs or hydrocarbons, both in the cooling circuit and in the insulating foam inside the walls. Specialist treatment plants degas the circuit and process the foam in sealed conditions so that these gases are captured rather than released.
Because of that extra treatment, fridges and freezers cost more to dispose of than general waste. It is also why it is worth using a licensed carrier: a fridge that ends up dumped or stripped for scrap can leak gases and oil into the environment.
Getting it out of the house
Fridges and American-style fridge-freezers are heavy, awkward and easy to damage walls and floors with. We bring enough people to carry them safely, take doors off where necessary to get through tight spaces, and protect floors on the way out.
Please switch the appliance off and defrost it at least a day before we come. It saves water leaking through your house and our van.
Retailers, landlords and businesses
If you have bought a new appliance and the retailer does not offer take-back, or the delivery team could not take the old one, we can collect it. Landlords use us to remove broken appliances from rental properties, and businesses such as cafés, shops and offices use us to dispose of old commercial fridges and chest freezers.
Commercial customers receive a waste transfer note for their records.

What affects the price
Every job is quoted individually from photos. These are the factors that make the difference:
Each unit has its own disposal cost.
Fridges and freezers cost more to recycle than washing machines.
Large American-style units take more handling.
Stairs and tight kitchens take longer.
Adding other rubbish to the same visit is often good value.
How to prepare
- Switch off and defrost fridges and freezers at least 24 hours before collection.
- Empty all food, shelves and drawers.
- Have washing machines and dishwashers disconnected and drained.
- Gas cookers must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- Tell us about stairs, narrow doorways or a long carry.
- Let us know the size, especially for American-style fridge-freezers.
Responsible disposal
Where your waste goes
All fridges, freezers and white goods go through licensed WEEE recycling. Refrigerant gases and insulation foam are captured at specialist treatment plants, and metals and plastics are recovered for reuse.
Whoever takes your waste, check they are a registered waste carrier. Householders have a legal duty of care, and if waste you paid someone to remove is fly-tipped it can be traced back to you. We are licensed and insured, take every load to authorised facilities, and are always happy to show our credentials.

Super helpful! I sent a message on WhatsApp on the weekend and got a reply the same day with a price. They came and collected 2 days later and all was left clean and tidy. Really efficient. Would highly recommend.
Collected the day following my initial message. Arrived in the morning and everything removed quickly and left tidy. Reasonable price too - excellent job! Thank you.
Just used A Star Waste Management and the service was fantastic. The chap was extremely polite and efficient and I would certainly use this company again and recommend them whenever I can.
Arranged via WhatsApp, great pricing and all rubbish cleared professionally and efficiently. Staff were friendly and polite. Highly recommended, much cheaper than getting a skip and loading it yourself.
Swift and efficient waste removal. Quick response from the team. Quoted the job from the photos I sent. They kept in communication with us, so we weren't hanging around. The guys worked quickly to clear the area, they were very professional. I highly recommend their service.
