Garages stripped back to a bare shell, ready for conversion into a room, office or gym.
Converting a garage into a room, office, gym or annexe is one of the most popular home improvements. Before the builders arrive, the garage needs to be stripped back: contents out, shelving and workbenches removed, old fittings taken down and the floor cleared.
We strip garages back completely and take everything away, so your conversion can start on schedule.
Just used A Star Waste Management and the service was fantastic. The chap was extremely polite and efficient and I would certainly use this company again and recommend them whenever I can.

Advice
Garage conversion checklist
Before a garage conversion, check whether you need planning permission or building regulations approval, arrange for an electrician to make the supply safe, and find out whether the roof or wall panels contain asbestos. Once those are in hand, we can strip the garage back so the builders can start on time.
Items you want to keep can be moved to the house or a shed, and we can clear the rest, including shelving, workbenches and any carpet or lino on the floor.

Good to know
Asbestos check
Older garages may have asbestos in roof sheets, panels or floor tiles. Have it checked before a conversion. We will not disturb suspected asbestos.
Once the garage is clear, we can also collect the builders waste from the conversion.
What a soft strip includes
A typical soft strip includes shelving, racking, counters and display fittings; stud partitions and suspended ceiling tiles; carpet, carpet tiles, vinyl and underlay; kitchens, toilets and basins; signage; and general waste and old stock. Structural elements, services and anything involving asbestos are outside the scope of a soft strip and need the appropriate specialists.
Before we start, we agree exactly what is being removed and what is staying, and we make sure utilities have been isolated where necessary.

What affects the price
We quote every job individually, usually from photos. The main factors are:
Square footage and number of rooms.
How much is being removed.
Plasterboard and mixed waste have different disposal costs.
Out-of-hours work and restricted access take longer.
Larger strip-outs may run over several days.
How to prepare
- Confirm what the lease or landlord requires on handover.
- Arrange isolation of electrics, water and gas where needed.
- Check whether an asbestos survey exists for the building.
- Tell us about access, working hours, loading bays and parking.
- Remove confidential documents and data-bearing IT equipment.
- Label anything that is staying or being reused.
Responsible disposal
Where your waste goes
Strip-out waste is separated into metal, timber, plasterboard, cardboard, carpet and general waste, then taken to licensed facilities for recycling or disposal. A waste transfer note is provided for every commercial job.
Whoever takes your waste, check they are a registered waste carrier. Householders have a legal duty of care, and if waste you paid someone to remove is fly-tipped it can be traced back to you. We are licensed and insured, take every load to authorised facilities, and are always happy to show our credentials.

Bit of a mix up with timings but once arrived the boys were quick, efficient and very thorough in their work. There was an awful lot of stuff in our garage that was not being used and we needed it clearing for selling our house.
Swift and efficient waste removal. Quick response from the team. Quoted the job from the photos I sent. They kept in communication with us, so we weren't hanging around. The guys worked quickly to clear the area, they were very professional. I highly recommend their service.
We have used this company a number of times. Very professional, I would highly recommend them. They are happy to go that extra mile with no hesitation.
Really good service. Competitive price and left the site clear. I liked the good communication e.g. pictures of the finished job as I couldn't be at home as I was working. Great job and I would use them again.
A Star Waste Management provided a prompt and straightforward service from start to finish. Communication was clear, collection was arranged at a convenient time, and the waste was removed efficiently with no mess left behind. Polite, professional, and easy to deal with.
Jordan organized his crew to come and clear a mountain of rubbish from my back garden. A well overdue clearance all soggy and disintegrated and included a dead rat within..yuk. The lads did an amazing job. They were polite and courteous and worked flat out in the pouring rain. I can highly recommend them and will be using them again. I probably won't leave it so long next time though!
